West Clarendon Cemetery (Chippenhook Cemetery), Clarendon, Rutland County, Vermont

West Clarendon Cemetery, also known as Chippenhook Cemetery, is located on Walker Mountain Road. This is just outside Clarendon, Vermont. Transcripton of stones and photos provided by Doug Wescott.

Amos Westcott MonumentThe first is a headstone about eight feet tall, very impressive. The first face reads:
Amos Wescott
Died
Oct. 30, 1884
Aged 75 Yrs.

I make him to be #606 in the aforementioned book.

Second face reads:

Sophina (My notes say it was spelled this way, although her name was Sophrina.)
Wife of
Amos Wescott
Died
Nov. 30, 1884
Aged 73 yrs.
--------------------
Arunah C. Wescott
Oct. 13 1835
Oct. 22 1906

The third face reads:

ORE A
wife of
W. H. Wescott
Born
Nov 20 1842
Died
Apr. 19 1903
--------------

W. Henry Wescott (I take him to be Amos' son, #1003)
Co. C, 7th Vt. Inf.
Born Dec. 28 1837
Died March 12, 1910

The fourth face is empty. And this headstone has WESCOTT in big letters around a base, as you will see in the picture.

Welthy and Jeremiah Wescott

Welthy

J'eh WESCOTT
DIED
Aug 26, 1865
AE 78 YRS.
Jeremiah Wescott (he being #368 in The Book.)
Died
Aug 5, 1856
AE 73.

Also buried there are the following, though I don't have pictures:

In memory of
George Westcot (only one T on the end)
Who died Jan. 11th 1799
in the 37 year of his Age (This I believe is #207 in the book of Westcotts.)

George W.
Son of
Jeremiah
& Wealthy
WESTCOTT
died April 6,
1825 aged
11 years

Phebe Jane
daughter
of Jeremiah
& Weltha
WESCOT died
May 1, 1837 aged
13 years & 5 months

DIANA
daughter of
George W &
OLIVE WESCOT
died April 21
1838, aged 18 years (I take her to be the daughter of Jeremiah's brother George, George being #369 in the book.)

The headstones of George (#207), George W, Phebe Jane, Diana, Welthy, and Jeremiah, stand side by side, from left to right as I've listed them. The monument of Amos Wescott is somewhat removed, but visible from anywhere in this small cemetery.

One last headstone:

Amos J. Wescott (He is the son of W. Henry Wescott, #1003)
1877 - 1923
His Wife
Hellen Potter (My notes read two L's)
1883 - 1976 (yes, this is what my notes say, 1976)
