A Westcott Family reunion in Milford Center, New York in 1931 was a grand success, as recounted in this snippet from The Westcott Family Quarterly, March 1947, such a success that it led to the formation of the Westcott Society.
LEAVE IT TO THE WOMEN—The late Mrs. Sextus Morris of Milford, N.Y., was chairman of the refreshment committee for the Westcott reunion held in the old Baptist Church at Milford Center, N.Y., in 1931. The Ladies Aid Society of the church was to furnish the dinner at $1.00 per plate, and Mrs. Morris had guaranteed sixty would be present. Three days before the date of the reunion, only some fifty reservations had been received and Mrs. Morris was worried. However, on the morning of the reunion, Mrs. Morris’ worry quickly subsided to be succeeded by a still greater worry. Instead of the guaranteed sixty, the members of the Aid Society found that they must serve dinners that noon to more than 180 people who were present. Mrs. Morris continued to worry while the women of the church raided every kitchen in the town and provided a full, well-rounded dinner for everybody. Enough money was realized to paint the church and then all worries were over.
